The OnePlus 6 is likely to be officially announced on May 21, GSMArena reports, citing a company email sent to one of its The Lab participants chosen to review the upcoming Android flagship. Almost simultaneously with the new information emerging online, OnePlus took to Chinese social media network Weibo to share yet another promotional render of the device that can be seen above. The teaser shows a matte black variant of the handset that has already been confirmed as featuring a glass back as the phone maker’s pursuit of premium design continues, though it’s presently unclear whether that choice of material will also amount to wireless charging support.
While a May 21 debut would mark the earliest first-half product launch OnePlus did in years, it would also denote the end of the firm’s longest teasing campaign to date. So far, the Chinese original equipment manufacturer teased its upcoming devices up to a month before their official unveiling, yet the OnePlus 6 is presently entering its fourth week of teasers, with the new development indicating its announcement is still nearly a month away. The firm hence already disclosed many details about the upcoming handset, including its system-on-chip of choice that’s unsurprisingly Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845. Not accounting for a limited-edition model themed after Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War blockbuster, the OnePlus 6 will be offered in two or three variants, with the most premium member of the product family boasting 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage space.
The OnePlus 6 will also have a display notch that the company opted to include so as to retain the overall physical footprint of the OnePlus 5T while pushing its screen-to-body ratio to some 90-percent, thus delivering the largest mobile display panel in its history. A dual-camera setup is expected to make a return with the OnePlus 6, together with support for face unlock and a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. The handset will also support navigation gestures reminiscent of Apple’s iPhone X, OnePlus said earlier this month.
