Soon after announcing its 2018 flagships in India, Samsung has announced a price cut for its previous flagship smartphones. Announced last April, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will now be available starting Rs. 49,990 ($769) and Rs. 53,990 ($830) respectively, according to a Mumbai-based retailer. The 64GB storage variants of both the devices will be available at the aforementioned prices, while the 128GB variant of the Galaxy S8 Plus will retail for Rs. 64,900 ($998). The smaller Galaxy S8 will be on sale only in the base 64GB storage variant with no option for a variant with 128GB of flash memory.
The two Samsung flagships debuted in the South Asian market at a starting price of Rs. 57,900 ($891) and Rs. 64,900 respectively and this will be their second price cut since launch. Samsung retails its Galaxy lineup of smartphones across major offline and online stores in the country and the new prices are already effective at most stores. Flipkart, one of the largest online retailers in India, is yet to update the prices of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus variants but it is expected to follow suit. When buying either of the two phones from Paytm Mall, an additional cashback of Rs. 10,000 will credited to the buyer’s Paytm wallet, which will be provided on top of the reduced prices. Samsung has slashed the prices of its flagships from yesteryear following the recent launch of the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus in India. The two are sold online exclusively via Flipkart, besides Samsung-owned stores, at a starting price of Rs. 57,900 and Rs. 64,900 respectively for their 64GB storage variants.
In India, the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus come powered by an Exynos 8895 chipset paired with 4GB of RAM, while 6GB of RAM can be found inside the 128GB storage variant of the Galaxy S8 Plus. Samsung’s trademarked Infinity Display debuted with the two devices that provides a taller aspect ratio of 18.5:9 at a QHD+ resolution of 2,960 x 1,440 pixels. The devices support two SIM cards in the country using a hybrid SIM card tray that can also take a microSD card of up to 256GB capacity. Both the devices share the same camera setup, unlike the current Samsung flagships, and the company recently pushed Android 8.0 Oreo OTA update to the two devices.
