Samsung Galaxy S9 Active Specs Leak, 4,000mAh Battery In Tow

A list of specs said to belong to the upcoming Galaxy S9 Active leaked online earlier this week, having been obtained from an unknown German source by tech blog Ready Tricks. The image that can be seen below indicates Samsung’s next rugged Android flagship will be identified by the model number SM-G893, which is in line with the company’s established product naming practices seeing how last year’s Galaxy S8 Active was also known as the SM-G892. The smartphone will be a more durable variant of the 5.8-inch Galaxy S9, featuring a screen of an identical size with a QHD+ resolution of 2,960 by 1,440 pixels amounting to a tall aspect ratio of 18.5:9, as per the same source.

While the Galaxy S9 Active is hence expected to debut with yet another iteration of Samsung’s Super AMOLED Infinity Display panel, the handset will likely lack curved edges, much like the Active-branded variants of every flagship from the South Korean tech giant since the 2015 Galaxy S6 lineup. The device will otherwise retain the core hardware of the regular Galaxy S9, the leak indicates, suggesting the upcoming rugged phablet will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 and 4GB of RAM, in addition to offering 64GB of storage space and a single 12-megapixel rear camera with a variable aperture capable of switching between f/1.5 and f/2.4. The front-facing 8-megapixel camera mounted behind an f/1.7 lens will also be making a return with the Galaxy S9 Active, though the handset will feature a larger-capacity battery, improving on the Galaxy S9 by 25-percent in this regard, the newly uncovered specs suggest.

Besides a flat screen, more durable exterior, and a 4,000mAh battery, the Galaxy S9 Active is likely to be identical to its standard-edition counterpart and will presumably retail at a similar price point. While the Active subseries of Samsung’s flagships has been exclusive to AT&T for several years, it also became available on T-Mobile and Sprint last summer, indicating Samsung’s exclusivity deal with the Dallas, Texas-based wireless carrier came to an end. The Galaxy S9 Active is also expected to be announced this summer, around the time the Galaxy Note 9 is thought to be arriving as well.
