Prominent designer Samsung Mobile News has now created some new renders of Samsung’s rumored SM-G8850, which is now suspected to be a member of the Galaxy A8 family after having been thought to be part of the Galaxy S9 series. This would be the first time Samsung has expanded beyond the usual Galaxy S and Galaxy S Plus branding with its flagships. However, that doesn’t rule out the possibility and there have been several hints which may indicate that’s what the company plans to do. Meanwhile, the images themselves were shared with the source and show a handset that falls in well among its more powerful counterparts while being somewhere in-between in terms of size. It’s important to keep in mind though that these are concepts with no connection to the Korean electronics giant. While there have been some leaks – including an AnTuTu benchmark listing – which these were probably based on, that doesn’t mean they’re accurate, especially considering the most recent leak from earlier this afternoon which suggests that it may be a device called the Galaxy A8 Star, so it’s best to view them with a healthy degree of skepticism rather than as being representative of what Samsung might ultimately release.
With regard to the current expectations for the new handset, regardless of whether it falls in Samsung’s Galaxy S9 family, there have been a few reports so far. Those have suggested this handset will opt for mid-range specs, starting with an octa-core Snapdragon 660 64-bit SoC and a fullHD+ display. That will bear a resolution of either 2220 x 1080 or 2960 x 1440, with conflicting reports from the various leaks. However, that’s consistent with Samsung’s now standard 18.5:9 ratio. The body encasing that display is said to measure 147.7 x 68.7 x 8.4mm, whereas weight should fall in at around 163g. In the meantime, further conflicting reports seem to suggest there may be both a variant with 4GB RAM and another with 6GB coupled with 64GB of storage.
That’s expected to be fueled by a battery with a 3,000mAh capacity, which is also in line with the Galaxy S9 family of devices. A single 8-megapixel sensor is suspected to ship on the front of this handset while a dual camera is expected on the back – set at 12 and 8-megapixels, respectively. That, along with the expected design quirk which places the camera in the upper-left corner instead of middle-center, all appears to be present in the renders shown below. Having said that, it’s still probably a good idea to take the news with a grain of salt. Since a device bearing its model number has already passed through the TENAA and AnTuTu, it isn’t likely to be long before Samsung reveals it.
