Sony is further expanding its XF TV series with three additional models, having announced the XF70, XF75, and the XF83, all of which will launch in a variety of sizes this spring and deliver 4K HDR functionalities. The lineup complements Sony’s XF series originally introduced at this year’s CES, and as a result, there are some similarities between the upcoming variants and the ones launched several months back, such as the inclusion of the 4K X-Reality PRO technology designed to sharpen and upscale images closer to true 4K quality.
In addition, the Sony XF83 takes advantage of the 4K HDR Processor X1 chipset designed to provide high-quality images on large panels. The processor seems to have been included only in the Sony XF83, which is the only one of the three new models to come in 60 and 70-inch sizes. In contrast, the Sony XF70 and XF75 will both be available in four screen sizes, with Sony confirming 43, 49, 55, and 65-inch models of the two, but despite their similarities, it’s not entirely clear whether both will be powered by the Android platform. According to Sony, the XF75 provides advanced voice controls and access to the Google Play Store, whereas the XF70 is described as having a built-in Internet browser with one-click access to Netflix and YouTube apps. Sony also mentions compatibility between the XF70 and its own PlayStation 4 console, which is to be expected, but having said that, the Sony XF70 might not be an Android TV and could be viewed by Sony as a solution for PlayStation 4 users who rely on their console as the main media hub in the living room.
Sony will launch the three newly announced 4K HDR TVs this spring, presumably in Europe first, though exact availability and pricing details are currently unknown. In the United States, Sony’s XF TV sets are generally known by slightly different monikers, so assuming that the new XF70, XF75, and the XF83 will also be launched stateside, they will likely be marketed as the Sony X700F, X750F, and the X830F, respectively.
