Ultimate Ears has announced that the BLAST and MEGABLAST speakers will be getting support for Spotify Voice Control later this year, along with some other features. This is going to allow you to use your voice to start Spotify music, as well as switch songs and so forth. This is going to work with Alexa, and not be a separate voice feature, and it’s about time that Ultimate Ears added Spotify support here. Currently, to play Spotify on the BLAST or MEGABLAST, you have to do it over Bluetooth. Which is not the best way, especially since this is a “smart” speaker.
That’s not all that’s coming to the BLAST and MEGABLAST speakers though. Ultimate Ears is going to be adding some enhanced controls to its app (available on Android and iOS). You’ll be able to control the volume remotely from the app, and in May you’ll be able to personalize your sound with a custom equalizer. Spotify Connect is also coming, so you can control what’s playing from the Spotify app on your desktop or mobile device, and choose which device it’s playing on. Finally, you’ll get some new grouping features for the BLAST and MEGABLAST. You can connect up to eight of these speakers together on Bluetooth and WiFi. When two are connected, it’ll use stereo mode. This update is going to be optimized to take advantage of the built-in WiFi inside these speakers. Giving you greater range when grouped. Allowing for some great multi-room audio here.
These features are all coming soon, with the new enhanced controls coming in May sometime. If you haven’t bought the Ultimate Ears BLAST or MEGABLAST, you can still do so. The BLAST is typically priced at $229 and the MEGABLAST at $299, but currently these are both on sale for $70 off of their regular price. Which you can pick them up from Amazon using the links below. Both speakers are available in a ton of different colors, which is normal for Ultimate Ears.
