Samsung, in collaboration with the Dutch carrier Vodafone, has recently released a special limited edition of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the S9 Plus, dubbed the “Red Bull Ring Edition”. This limited edition of Samsung’s flagship devices includes a special smart cover that attaches to the device. Once the smart cover is attached, an exclusive Red Bull Ring theme will be loaded automatically to the smartphone through NFC. Samsung noted in its press release that this is the first time that the South Korean device maker changed the theme and the user experience of the handset through the use of a smart cover. In addition, users who own the device will also receive exclusive wallpapers every week. Moreover, people will also receive exclusive content from Ziggo Sports on a monthly basis, which may include race videos, behind-the-scenes clips, news, and other in-depth information about the Grand Prix.
Furthermore, from April 16th to May 27th, the Dutch carrier is offering free weekend tickets to the Formula One Grand Prix in Austria to the buyers of the limited edition of the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus who will also subscribe to either the Vodafone Red or Red Super plans.
Aside from the inclusion of the smart cover, it seems that the limited edition of the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus have the same specifications as the other variants of the two devices. The two smartphones are powered by the Exynos 9810 chipset, which is comprised of an octa-core Exynos M3 CPU running at a maximum clock speed of 2.7GHz and the Mali-G72 MP18 GPU. The smaller Galaxy S9 sports a 5.8-inch display, 4GB of RAM, and a single rear camera, which is equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor. On the other hand, the larger Galaxy S9 Plus includes a 6.2-inch display, 6GB of RAM, and dual 12-megapixel rear cameras. One of the two rear cameras is equipped with a telephoto lens. The two handsets sport IP68 certification for water and dust resistance and both smartphones ship with Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed. However, the device maker’s proprietary skin, Samsung Experience UI 9.0, runs on top of Google’s operating system.
