A hands-on photo featuring the alleged Nubia Z18 popped up on the web recently, providing a preview of what might be the company’s new Full Screen 3.0 design philosophy. As a reminder, Nubia is presently preparing for a new launch event where the OEM is expected to reveal a brand new phone with a true full-screen look aiming to surpass the impressive 90.36-percent screen-to-body ratio flaunted by the Nubia Z17S. The name of this seemingly ambitious device has yet to be officially confirmed, but the upcoming model is believed to be a direct sequel to the Nubia Z17S, and given recent reports, it would seem that the next-gen device set to be unveiled at the Full Screen 3.0 event could hit the market as the Nubia Z18.
Nubia recently teased its upcoming full-screen smartphone along with its ambitious plans for pushing the mobile display boundaries to new limits. The latest hands-on photo reveals what the company’s vision might be for a true full-screen device, and as expected, the unit seen in the photo appears to have extremely thin bezels all around, though the lower bezel is not visible. However, it’s interesting to note that the handset seems to have replaced the OEM’s iconic red circular home button with a software counterpart which is partially visible in the lower area of the image, suggesting that the lower bezel might be just as thin as the others. Another detail clearly visible in the image lies in the 2.5D glass which wraps around the display edges, but it’s unclear how the device will tackle the repositioning of the front-facing camera and loudspeaker, neither of which are visible in the newly emerged photograph.
It also remains to be seen whether the Nubia Z18 will have a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, a physical side button with an embedded fingerprint reader, or if it will borrow a page from VIVO’s playbook and go for a more ambitious approach in the form of an in-display scanner. Either way, if the device will be considered a sequel to the Nubia Z17S by the OEM, then it should take advantage of top-tier components and a high-resolution display, and indeed, according to earlier TENAA and AnTuTu listings describing what’s believed to be the Nubia Z18, the Android device could make use of a Snapdragon 845 chipset and a 5.99-inch display with a resolution of 2,160 by 1,080 pixels.
