The first alleged render of the Galaxy Note 9 appeared online earlier this week, having been shared by one industry insider from China who has a positive track record with leaking Samsung’s upcoming products. The image that can be seen above shows an Orchid Gray variant of the Android phablet and suggests the South Korean tech giant will once again be launching dual-SIM models of one of its flagships, based on the two signal strength indicators in the phone’s notification bar.
The Galaxy Note 9 appears to be visually identical to its 2017 predecessor, being yet another Samsung-made offering with an Infinity Display, a Super AMOLED panel with an elongated aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Much like the Galaxy Note 8, this year’s S Pen-equipped device is likely to support a QHD+ resolution of 2,960 by 1,440 pixels and be offered in two main variants. The international model should feature Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 chip, whereas the versions sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and China are expected to ship with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845, as was the case with the Galaxy S9 lineup commercialized two months back. Recent reports indicated Samsung may have found a way to mass-produce smartphones with in-screen fingerprint readers, with the implication being that the Galaxy Note 9 will be the company’s first product to feature such a scanner.
The Seoul-based original equipment manufacturer is also rumored to offer the Galaxy Note 9 in at least one new color, with previous reports mentioning a “Teddy Brown” variant of the phablet. The high-end offering is expected to feature 6GB of RAM and a 64GB storage space base, together with a 3.5mm audio jack. While the Galaxy Note 8 boasted a 6.3-inch screen, the upcoming device may be equipped with a 6.4-inch panel, insiders claimed earlier this year. Samsung‘s custom implementation of Android 8.1 Oreo should also be part of the package, together with NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, heart rate monitor, and Bixby 2.0, a new iteration of the company’s artificial intelligence assistant. The Galaxy Note 9 is likely to debut in late August or early September, around the time the IFA 2018 trade show takes place in Berlin, Germany.
