DIRECTV NOW has been beta testing a brand new interface, for quite a few months now. This interface was tied into its Cloud DVR feature that it has been alpha testing for even longer. And beginning today, users will be able to enjoy both. DIRECTV NOW says that the new interface is available for iOS and tvOS customers, with Android, Fire TV, Roku and other platforms coming in the next few weeks.
According to DIRECTV NOW’s blog post, the new look is to make it easier for users to find their most-watched channels and favorite programs, as they are now front and center. The team has made it so that you can look for something to watch while you are watching your current stream. The interface is now lighter, which likely won’t be a favorite among many, seeing as the older interface was black with white text. DIRECTV NOW also now allows you to watch three streams at once. By default, you’ll get two streams included, but you can get a third stream for $5 per month. So if you are using DIRECTV NOW with your family, all of you can watch TV separately at the same time. The On Demand content has also been expanded here, as DIRECTV NOW says there are more than 25,000 titles to choose from here.
Of course, the big feature in this update is Cloud DVR. This has been in the testing for many months – nearly a year – and it’s finally rolling out to everyone and is still in beta, technically. Cloud DVR is going to allow everyone to record up to 100 hours of content. During the beta phase, it’ll be limited to 20 hours, however. Cloud DVR will be priced at $10 per month, when it leaves beta later this summer. Content will be able to be stored for up to 90 days as well. that’s about the same amount of hours as traditional cable or satellite TV.
All of these are great features coming to DIRECTV NOW, and those that aren’t DIRECTV NOW customers can still sign up and take advantage of these new features. DIRECTV NOW does offer up a free seven-day trial for those that want to try out the service. Of course, there are also other promotions going on, where you can pre-pay for one month of DIRECTV NOW and get an Amazon Fire TV Stick or four months and get an Apple TV. So there’s no reason not to jump in and start using DIRECTV NOW, seeing as it does cost just $35/month.
