Update [May 9]: A representative of the Wireless Power Consortium contacted AndroidHeadlines to point out that no EcoFlow devices received Qi certification to date. EcoFlow says it’s presently “looking into” the matter and will issue a statement shortly. This article will be updated with new information as it becomes available.
Update [May 10]: An EcoFlow spokesperson clarified the RIVER Bank will be Qi-certified before it starts shipping to customers in late summer or early fall. The original story is as follows.
EcoFlow on Tuesday debuted what it claims is the world’s first airplane-friendly modular portable power station, having unveiled it in the form of the RIVER Bank. The newly announced gadget can charge six devices at once, is equipped with multiple widely embraced ports, and boasts certified support for fast 10W wireless charging based on the Qi standard. The San Francisco-based company says its latest offering is suitable for a wide variety of use case and is quick to point out that the RIVER Bank also features a USB data hub meant to allow for swift file transfers on the go.
Besides fast charging support and portability, one of the main selling points of EcoFlow’s product is its modular design which allows users to change its sub-modules in order to cater to specific charging ports and maximize the gadget’s power capacity. Every individual module has between 40 and 100 watt-hours of power, meaning you’re able to carry a massive amount of portable power containers to flights while still complying with the security regulations imposed by the United States Federal Aviation Administration which limit you to 100Wh battery packs. The cell modules are stackable and can transfer power between one another, in total offering close to 200Wh of portable energy. EcoFlow claims the solution can recharge your smartphone up to 30 times, provide a maximum of four recharges to contemporary laptops, or replenish your DSLR camera battery up to 25 times on a single charge, depending on your modular configuration and the actual devices you’re recharging.
The RIVER Bank is powerful enough to jump-start a car and can be recharged via any conventional means, including wall sockets, car lighters, and mobile solar panels. The main battery module is a 25,600mAh (3.7V) unit with two of each USB Type-A and USB Type-C ports, with the former also being Quick Charge 3.0-enabled. The accessory will be priced at $199, whereas a 44Wh Sub-Module A will set you back $99. EcoFlow will also be offering a 94Wh Sub-Module B with a 100W AC port for $149, as well as a 21W Solar Charger compatible with the power bank which is meant to retail at $159.99. The RIVER Bank can be pre-ordered through Indiegogo and will start shipping in late summer or early fall, targeting the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan.
