HTC has just confirmed that its U12 Plus flagship will be announced on May 23. The company has confirmed this info via its official Twitter page, and while HTC did not specifically mention “U12 Plus”, the company did say the following: “Coming soon. A phone that is more than the sum of its specs.”, and that caption alone basically confirms that the U12 Plus is on the way. In the background of the image HTC shared, you will notice the HTC U12 Plus’ internals, which more or less confirm that the phone will sport four cameras, and a hybrid dual SIM card setup.
The HTC U12 Plus had actually surfaced in several real-life images at the end of last month, while a couple of camera samples also surfaced several days later. Having said that, it seems like the device will be made out of metal and glass, while its dual camera setup on the back will be horizontally-aligned. A fingerprint scanner will also be included on the back of the HTC U12 Plus, while the phone’s bezels will be quite thin. Now, the phone’s specs have surfaced a couple of times thus far, and according to that info, the device will sport a 5.5-inch QHD+ LCD display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top of it. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor will fuel the phone, while the device will ship with at least 6GB of RAM on the inside, though an 8GB RAM variant is also a possibility.
12 and 16-megapixel cameras are expected to be included on the back of the phone, while the device will probably include two 8-megapixel cameras on the front. The HTC U12 Plus will be IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, while a 3,420mAh battery is expected to be included as well, and the same goes for wireless charging. Stereo speakers will probably be a part of the package as well, while Android 8.0 or 8.1 Oreo will come pre-installed on the phone, along with HTC’s Sense UI. Do keep in mind that we’re still not sure if the device will be called the HTC U12 or U12 Plus, but recent reports suggest it will be the U12 Plus, so we’ll leave it at that for now.
