A recent leak suggests that the upcoming HTC U12 Plus flagship will be coming in four different color variants, one of which is apparently planned to be at least partially translucent. Along with the translucent version, the phone is also said to be coming in black, “Red Rose,” and violet. According to the leaked rumor, the device will sport 64GB of storage and a 6-inch screen, and will also come in single and dual-sim variants. For one last tidbit in this leak, it’s said that the phone “won’t be cheap” though it is mentioned that the prices that have been seen thus far have been “very high, but probably way off,” making it difficult to gauge just what kind of pricing tier the final device will fall into.
According to the rumor, the device announcement isn’t very far off, but HTC still has yet to unveil much of anything officially, aside from an ad that featured some iPhone parts. It is worth noting that leak’s assertion of a 64GB device for the EU market runs counter to some previous rumors and leaks while corroborating others, and could indicate different storage variants in some markets. Verizon’s seemingly premature leak of some of the phone’s specs, for example, seems to point to a 64GB base version.
To recap basic information about the HTC U12 Plus at this point, there’s a general consensus that it will be a 6-inch, 18:9 full screen device sporting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, meant to compete with Samsung’s Galaxy S9. 4GB of RAM is said to be on board, along with a 3,500mAh capacity battery. HTC’s previous U11 flagship had an IP67 certification for water and dust resistance, and this one ups the ante to an IP68 certification, putting in the same territory in that regard as more durable fare like the Samsung Galaxy S8 Active. Bluetooth 5.0 is also said to be on board, along with a unique camera array consisting of two on the front and two on the back. Camera sample leaks from the back indicate a 12.2-megapixel setup with one f/1.8 lens and one f/2.6 lens, but the two front cameras have yet to see any such identifying information hit the web.
