Xiaomi has just announced a new version of its MIUI Android skin, MIUI 10. Some MIUI 10 UI screenshots leaked quite recently, and it seems like that leak was spot on. Xiaomi has decided to redesign parts of MIUI, like the recents / multitasking view, for example, in order to boost its usability, while a number of fixes and new features have been added in MIUI 10. Having said that, let’s see what’s new, shall we.
Let’s kick things off with the new recents view, as that is one of the more interesting elements of MIUI 10, and also the biggest design change compared to MIUI 9. If you take a look at the provided screenshot down below, you will notice that MIUI 10’s recents view looks different to pretty much every other design out there, instead of opting for regular horizontal or vertical view, Xiaomi has decided to include two vertical columns of app cards in there. The company claims that it maximizes screen space this way, as it’s leaning towards navigation gestures, so there’s plenty of display for you to use without a navigation bar. You will be able to swipe those cards away, as you would on stock Android, and if you long-press on them, you’ll get more options, as per usual. MIUI 10 will also help Xiaomi’s smartphone to create better AI portrait images, by assisting camera sensors in creating that bokeh effect that people like so much, while the company also released a couple of camera samples with a nice bokeh effect, and those samples have been captured with a phone which runs MIUI 10, but remains unnamed, though it’s probably the Mi 8. MIUI 10’s design, in general, has been tweaked, it looks even more like stock Android now, while UI elements are round now, the vast majority of them at the very least. Animations have also been tweaked by the company, in case you care about that.
As far as performance is concerned, Xiaomi says that MIUI 10 is utilizing AI in order to study the way you use your phone, and based on that, anticipate your next move, which lets it prepare certain apps to be opened, and that way reduce load times quite a bit, almost completely. On top of all that, MIUI 10 will also offer better integration with Mi Ecosystem devices, claims Xiaomi, as that is one of its main focuses moving forward. Do keep in mind that a ton more MIUI 10 info will be shared in the near future, as Xiaomi did not talk all that much about it during its press conference (at least features that are not China-specific), but if any new info pops up today we will update this article. It is also worth saying that a global build of MIUI 10 will arrive later this year, and it will probably include some additional features, while it will not ship with a number of China-focused apps like a Chinese version of MIUI 10.
