Mobile Posse Calls For 'Smarter Phone Revolution'

Jon Jackson, Chief Executive Officer of advertising and customer relationship management company Mobile Posse, penned an open letter to wireless carriers and original equipment manufacturers earlier this weak, calling for a “smarter phone revolution” meant to address the constantly growing consumer expectations and usher in the new era of handset technologies. The letter is essentially calling for new initiatives meant to bring more high-quality content to mobile devices, adding that such efforts automatically require a new take on the concept of a smartphone.

Mr. Jackson identified three key areas of consideration meant to help deliver the smarter phone revolution, with the first one being strategizing for scale, i.e. placing a larger focus on solutions that can be easily rolled out across all devices instead of platform-exclusive functionalities such as Samsung’s Bixby. That point ties into the second consideration, “true device integration” meant to put an end to bloatware and replace it with native content. Lastly, the Mobile Posse CEO called for OEMs and carriers to be fully committed to the mission and explore content discovery opportunities across all mobile aspects. While the telecom industry is already on the right path toward this future, it needs to move faster and with a more defined plan, the letter suggests.

The communication specifically mentions Verizon by commending its $10 billion investment in creating Oath from AOL and Yahoo assets, calling the new media unit as a massive mobile opportunity, though noting that the largest wireless carrier in the United States has yet to take advantage of its holdings. Three years after Verizon acquired AOL, it’s time to “wait less and do more,” Mr. Jackson concluded. The industry veteran unsurprisingly sees Mobile Posse as a crucial player in this smarter phone revolution, urging carriers, OEMs, and other entities interested in fulfilling that vision to contact the company.
