Oculus has brought its ‘Venues’ app to the Gear VR and Oculus Go headsets. Previously only available on the Oculus Rift, if you’re not familiar with Venues it allows you to watch live events such as concerts, sporting events and more all in virtual reality as if you were actually there. It’s even possible to bring other people along so friends and family can watch the events with you if you prefer, and it seems like all the events are free to watch, which might help supplement the lack of being able to physically go to an event where you’d have to buy the ticket.
Whether users choose to enter an event solo or in the group viewing mode, Oculus Venues has a fairly large list of upcoming events to look forward to like the Arizona Diamondbacks vs the San Francisco Giants game which comes up on June 6, or the Vance Joy concert which happened on May 30. The list is constantly being updated with new live events to explore too so if you don’t find anything you particularly care for at the current time there are likely to be more at some point that may capture your interest.
Also worth noting is that all events are in fact live and in real-time, so you won’t want to be late or miss any moments of the action. Oculus is making it easy for users to discover new events before they come up, as they’ll highlight them in the Explore feed. If users find any they might want to attend they can subscribe to them with minimal effort so they don’t forget, and then they should get future alerts when events are getting closer. In addition to Oculus Venues now coming to the Gear VR and Oculus Go, Oculus Rift users will get the ability to try out a new VR manga coming from Square Enix, which just recently released this week.
