OnePlus 6 Will Sport AI-Powered Cameras, Teaser Reveals

OnePlus has shared a new OnePlus 6 teaser on its official Weibo (Chinese social network) page, and this time around, OnePlus is focusing on the camera of its upcoming smartphone. If you take a look at the provided teaser, it will be rather obvious that the company is teasing AI capabilities of OnePlus 6 cameras. AI is actually mentioned on the image, and the camera has been reshaped to become an eye in this image, so there’s that. This teaser did surface in China, and is aimed at the Chinese consumers, but the features of the OnePlus 6 will be the same both in China and in other markets.

Now, TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) had recently shared the OnePlus 6’s spec sheet, and as part of that, the site confirmed that the phone will ship with 20 and 16-megapixel cameras on its back, while a single 16-megapixel camera will be included on its front side. Megapixel count will not change compared to the OnePlus 5T it seems, but you can expect to see better camera sensors included here, and OnePlus obviously worked on its camera software as well. If rumors are to be believed, both the phone’s 16 and 20-megapixel cameras will sport a f/1.7 aperture lens, we’re looking at regular RGB and telephoto cameras here, respectively. These two cameras are expected to offer OIS support, which is something that the OnePlus 5T lacked. The OnePlus 6 will also ship with super slow-mo, which is something that the company also confirmed via one of its teasers. OnePlus did tease the phone’s camera capabilities quite recently as well, in case you were wondering.

The OnePlus 6 will be announced in London on May 16, while it will become official in China a day later, on May 17. The OnePlus 6 actually surfaced on Amazon Germany quite recently, and even though that listing was quickly removed, it did reveal the phone’s price tag in Europe, along with the design of the device. The OnePlus 6’s 6GB RAM variant with 64GB of storage will be priced at €519 in Europe, while a variant with 128GB of storage (and probably 8GB of RAM) will end up costing €569. Now, the company is also planning to release an 8GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage, though a price for that phone is still unknown. The OnePlus 6 will be made out of metal and glass, it will sport a display notch, and it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core SoC.
