OPPO and Amazon India have teased the arrival of a new smartphone brand yesterday, and now the two companies have partnered up to announce a new India-focused brand, Realme. Now, a smartphone is a part of the package, as the two companies have also announced that the first Realme-branded smartphone, the Realme 1, will be announced on May 15 in the country, and needless to say, it will be available exclusively via Amazon India.
Now, the two companies have also showed off the design of the phone back side, which shows off a single camera on the back, and an interesting diamond-like pattern. Based on this image, the device will be made out of metal and glass, while its rear-facing camera will not be completely flush with the phone’s back. An LED flash sits next to the device’s camera, while a power / lock key is included on the right-hand side of the device. The volume up and down buttons sit on the left-hand side of this smartphone, while the ‘Realme’ branding is also visible on the back of the device. That being said, it is quite possible that the Realme 1 ends up being a rebranded OPPO A3 which was announced last week in China. That handset sports the exact same design, well, at least if the back of the phone’s back is concerned.
The Realme 1 will probably be a rebranded OPPO A3, though we still do not know what specs to expect. Chances are that the Realme 1 will be inferior to the OPPO A3 in terms of specs, even though it’s possible that it will sport the exact same specs, but the company may be looking to use a different name for the device in India. The OPPO A3 launched in China with a 6.2-inch fullHD+ display, 4GB of RAM and the MediaTek Helio P60 64-bit octa-core processor. The phone also sports Android 8.1 Oreo, and OPPO’s ColorOS 5.0 skin which is included on top of Google’s OS. A 16-megapixel camera sits on the back of the OPPO A3, while the phone ships with a 3,400mAh battery. The OPPO A3 is priced at around $315 in China, and it remains to be seen if the Realme 1 will sport a similar price tag and similar specs, or will OPPO and Amazon India look to introduce a more affordable handset.
