Orion Labs is bringing its AppTalk push-to-talk (PTT) solution to Android smartphones, the San Francisco, California-based company announced Wednesday. The service is being rolled out as part of a new update for the existing Orion Android app that will bring its version number up to 5.3.3. Refer to the Google Play Store banner below to check whether the upgrade is already available for download in your country. As is the case with the iOS version of AppTalk, the functionality is being touted as the ultimate real-time communication and collaboration tool for businesses. The app has been primarily designed to work with the Onyx push-to-talk wearable, with its Android port now aiming to make the platform even more versatile, i.e. allowing business owners to include a larger volume of their workforce in their Orion-enabled communications.
Besides allowing for simple communication among employees, AppTalk is also compatible with chatbots and automated systems, with the platform hence being touted as a comprehensive solution for enterprises. Orion claims its default implementation is extremely easy to navigate, allowing users to contact their team members by relying on a single on-screen button, with communications being relayed in real time. Offline mode is also part of the package and fully supported on Android devices, allowing users to go off the grid if they’re on a break or left work. For businesses that require team member tracking, GPS capabilities are included as well, as is native support for automation solutions based on the IFTTT standard.
In essence, AppTalk is an evolution of the walkie-talkie concept backed by the latest technological advancements which also comes with a wide variety of extra features. Chatbot support allows for innovative automation setups, with the platform itself being suitable for implementation in a broad range of industry, Orion claims. The new feature should be available for download on all eligible devices by the end of the week.
