Razer Scheduled May 22 China Event, Razer Phone Launching?

Razer has just scheduled an event in China for May 22. Now, it seems like this will be a launch event for the company’s Razer Phone gaming smartphone which was announced back in November, but it never made its way to China. Xiaomi’s Black Shark and Nubia’s Red Magic gaming smartphones launched recently, and it seems like Razer wants to take its chances in the Chinese smartphone market.

Do keep in mind that the company did not confirm that this launch event is Razer Phone-related, but that is more or less an obvious launch for them at the moment, as the company will want to compete with the likes of Xiaomi and Nubia. It is always possible that Razer is planning to launch a whole new handset in China on May 22, but that’s not as likely, as the Razer Phone is about six months old at this point, and Razer would probably announce a whole new product on a global scale, not in China only. Now, the Razer Phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm’s flagship SoC for 2017, just like the Nubia Red Magic, so the Razer Phone is still more than relevant in the gaming smartphone space. Truth be told, Xiaomi’s Black Shark gaming smartphone does come with the Snapdragon 845 out of the box, so some people are likely to opt for it in order to get more power out of the box.

The Razer Phone is not exactly a bezel-less handset, not even close to that, but it does come with a set of Dolby Atmos stereo speaker, while it also has a 120Hz display refresh rate. The Razer Phone features a 5.7-inch QHD display, 8GB of RAM and 64GB of storage which you can expand using a microSD card. The device also comes with a 4,000mAh battery, and it is available in a Black color only. Two 12-megapixel cameras are included on the back of the Razer Phone, while a single 8-megapixel camera sits on the phone’s front side. The Razer Phone has a fingerprint scanner as well, though it’s side-facing, while the phone ships with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but you can upgrade it to Android 8.1 Oreo.
