Google Lens is presently expanding its reach to cover more flagships from different brands, with the latest one being OnePlus. The feature powered by the Google Assistant is now said to be rolling out to the last four devices from the Chinese firm – the OnePlus 5T, 5, 3T, and 3. Many owners of eligible handsets claim they still haven’t received the functionality, suggesting its rollout is still ongoing. The deployment is still understood to be global in nature, with people from various parts of the world claiming to have already received Google Lens. Originally debuted with Google’s Pixel line, the machine vision solution started hitting third-party smartphones in late February.
With the feature enabled, a Lens icon will appear in the bottom right corner of the screen each time the Google Assistant is summoned. Tapping it will open a camera interface where Google Lens can take a photo to analyze and come up with relevant results. After being released with the Pixel 2 lineup, Google Lens in Google Assistant was brought to the original Pixel series last November. Initially, the feature was limited to a handful of regions and only worked in English, or for analyzing English writing. According to a number of Reddit users, OnePlus smartphones also need to have English set as their system language in order for Google Lens to become available on them. Every Samsung Android phone released since early 2017 and the Galaxy S8 series already supports the functionality. The more recently announced LG G7 ThinQ also has access to the same technology, with new features now being set to be announced at this week’s Google I/O conference.
To make up for the rollout delay and the fact that low and mid-range Android smartphones are unlikely to receive the feature initially, Google added Lens to the Google Photos app so as to ensure wider availability. An update carrying the feature was pushed to the Google Photos app this March only for Android devices, whereas iOS users were left waiting for longer.
