Samsung Galaxy A8 Star (SM-G885) Visits Bluetooth SIG

One of Samsung’s upcoming smartphones which previously passed through the FCC bearing the model number SM-G885 has been spotted in the Bluetooth database more recently, where the same model number has been linked with the Samsung Galaxy A Star moniker. The listing reconfirms that the device has dual-SIM capabilities and reveals that it should take advantage of Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. In addition, it seems like the variant sent to Bluetooth SIG for approval is the International model as denoted by the ‘F’ suffix in the model number, which suggests that the Korean tech giant might be gearing up for the handset’s global release.

Last month a leak emerged to suggest that the SM-G885 model number will be associated with the Samsung Galaxy A8 Star moniker and in light of new events this seems to be the case. However, in the Bluetooth database, the handset is being referred to simply as the Samsung Galaxy A Star so at the end of the day it remains to be seen if that small part of the model number will indeed be reflected in the final marketing name. Either way, it appears that Samsung intends to secure Bluetooth approvals for both the single SIM model known as the SM-G8850 / SM-G8858, as well as the dual-SIM variant identified as the SM-G885F/DS. No other hardware details aside from Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity were revealed through the application, though that’s not to say that the SM-G885 is completely shrouded in mystery. In fact, the same model number also passed through the Chinese regulatory agency TENAA last month where both its design and internal specifications have been revealed in greater detail. According to TENAA, the Samsung Galaxy A(8) Star has an eight-core processor with a frequency of up to 2.8GHz, though according to an earlier FCC listing the device is taking advantage of a CPU clocked at 2.2GHz instead.

In any case, TENAA further suggested that the processor can be paired with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM, and the device should also feature a 5.6-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2960 x 1440, leading to an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. Finally, the unit should be equipped with an 8 or 12-megapixel main camera along with an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter. As for availability, as yet there’s no official word on when the Samsung Galaxy A8 Star will hit the shelves though it seems like the OEM might be preparing the unit for a launch in the following weeks or months.
