The Sunrise Gold variants of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus Android flagships may be coming to the United States after all, even as Samsung’s Wednesday announcement made no mention of their stateside availability. Earlier this week, known industry insider Evan Blass shared the two renders seen above, with their implication being that the new color will eventually become available for purchase to American consumers. While the international models of Samsung’s high-end mobile offerings — even those powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips sold in Canada and Mexico — come with no model branding, those retailed in the U.S. so far always had their model names printed near the bottom third of their rear panels, much like those seen in the press renders shared by Mr. Blass.
Besides the Sunrise Gold models, Samsung on Wednesday also announced the Burgundy Red variants of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, having also failed to mention the U.S. in the context of their availability. The South Korean tech giant has a long history of refreshing its ultra-premium mobile lineups with new colors, usually as a way to reinvigorate sales in select markets, with the implication here being that the stateside commercial performance of the Galaxy S9 series may not warrant such a move yet. While the Burgundy Red color option already debuted late last year as the final addition to the Galaxy S8 family, the Sunrise Gold version is entirely new and may be revisited going forward, depending on its market reception.
Samsung reportedly has at least one entirely new smartphone color in the works for this year, with one industry insider recently claiming the Galaxy Note 9 series will include a “Teddy Brown” finish, thus offering the first brown Galaxy-branded flagship since the 2013 Galaxy S4. The Galaxy Note 9 is expected to debut in late August or early September, with its launch most likely being tied to the annual IFA trade show in Berlin, Germany.
