Smart Home Weekly: Add The NETGEAR Arlo Security Lights To Protect Your Home

NETGEAR’s Arlo division has finally released the Arlo Smart Home Security Light, which is going to be a great addition to your home and keep it protected. Much like the Arlo cameras, the Security Lights here are also wire-free, so you don’t need to worry about stringing power cords outside to these lights. These also have motion-detection included, so that the lights will turn on when someone walks by. You’ll also get notifications when this happens. Finally these are weather resistant and can be used anywhere, inside or outside.

Motion-detection is pretty much expected with a pair of security lights, even those that aren’t smart. So that’s no surprise here, but it is nice to have. This means that if you set one up near the front door, the light will come on when you get to the door, making it easier to fumble with your keys and unlock the front-door in the dark – unless of course you have a smart lock like the August Smart Lock. You can also put these around your home and keep an eye on all four sides of your house and make sure no unwanted people are around trespassing. Mobile alerts can be customized, so you won’t get alerts when an animal wanders into your yard, which depending on where you live, that might happen pretty often.

The lights here are actually customizable. These can be changed to different colors (it supports millions of different colors), you can also adjust the beam width and much more. Or set it to flash red when someone comes near the lights. This will obviously draw attention from your neighbors and likely scare people away. This is definitely a good thing if it happens when you’re not home. These lights can be mounted virtually anywhere. Whether that’s on a tree near the front of your home, or on your actual home. It will work anywhere, and Arlo includes a few different mounts for these lights.

As expected, Arlo’s security cameras do work with the security lights here, and will work simultaneously. Of course, with the lights being there, it’ll help your Arlo camera get a better picture of what’s going on – even though most of the cameras now do have night vision included. These lights are also compatible with Amazon Alexa, so you could tell the lights to turn on, using your voice with Alexa, which could be used to scare someone away before they even get into the area where your security lights would detect them. The functionality there is pretty minimal, and that’s because these are just security lights, but you can turn on the lights and flip on the stream from your Arlo cameras onto your TV or Echo Show and see what’s going on outside.

Arlo sells the Security Lights in a Single Kit, 2-Pack Kit, 3-Pack Kit and as an add-on light. Now it’s recommended to get the kit because it comes with the bridge, which is what will connect the lights together with other Arlo security cameras throughout your home. Of course, you can pick up the bridge separately, but it’ll cost you more than just buying a kit. The single kit starts at $149, 2-pack for $249 and 3-pack for $349. An add-on light is going to cost you $129 and the bridge is $59. All of which are available at Amazon.
