There’s a new app on the Google Play Store from the makers of the popular UC Browser which is intended to help users transfer files quickly under a variety of connectivity circumstances. The aptly titled “Share & Transfer – UC Share” performs exactly as might be expected in that regard. As with other applications that allow for this type of activities, those can be shared over Bluetooth or a temporary in-app hotspot that acts separately from a user’s data connection. The latter appears to be similar to how a Chromecast connects during setup in that this is a localized hotspot that shouldn’t use any of the user’s data. Beyond that, though, it also allows file transfers via an app-generated QR code, which the receiving device can scan.
The key selling point of this free application, as with other UC-branded applications, is speed. The team behind the app claims it can transfer a file at 0.2 seconds for an image, a single second for a song, or 22 seconds for a movie. That’s going to depend largely on the size of those files but the average transfer speed is said to be set at 5MB per second, with a maximum of 21MB per second. That’s a respectable speed for data-free wireless transfers but will still depend on file sizes being moved. Use of UC Share is fairly straightforward; users are presented with tabs for video, photos, music, and even applications themselves, which can be shared. Deeper file exploring is also possible for those who are sharing less conventional file formats for work or any other purposes. Of course, users can also use that deeper file scanning to explore and clear out some clutter on their device as well – similar to how traditional file management Android apps work.
Meanwhile, there’s a “friends” section for managing transfers and adding friends who will regularly be receiving and sending files. There’s also a self-management “Me” section for adjusting settings, providing feedback, exploring on-device files, and viewing file transfer history. As already mentioned, the newly released app is completely free to use and download, being compatible with the vast majority of contemporary Android devices.
