A previously unreleased Vivo device bearing model number X21i A has now been spotted at Geekbench with a MediaTek SoC and 6GB of RAM on board. Interestingly, the news follows the recent launch of the Chinese manufacturer’s X21 and X21 UD. This new device has been speculated to be a nearly identical handset to those but, as always, it’s important to view that speculation with a dose of skepticism. After all, there are already a few known differences based on the specs the benchmark does reveal. The differences could, in fact, extend far beyond those and it is already difficult to formulate a full picture from a single benchmark.
Summarily, those previous Vivo X21-branded devices each launched with a Qualcomm-built Snapdragon SoC onboard – the Snapdragon 660. The chipset in this handset, labeled as an ARM MT6771V/C, points to MediaTek’s octa-core Helio P60 SoC. That SoC has A.I. built into it and looks to be clocked at 2.0GHz. That’s fueled further speculation that this will be a very different device from the other X21-branded models. For example, Vivo launched a new HDR photo mode called Super HDR in February which is dependent on A.I. It’s not impossible that the chipset was chosen to make a variant of the Vivo X21 with much better imaging than previous models. As was seen with previous A.I.-driven chipsets, Vivo wouldn’t necessarily need to swap out other components for this to be a much more powerful handset either. The dual-camera main shooter, with 12-megapixel (f/1.8) and 5-megapixel (f/2.4) sensors, as well as the 12-megapixel (f/2.0) selfie camera could be enhanced by Super HDR. Meanwhile, with machine learning managing everything, the 6GB of RAM, 64 or 128GB of storage, and 3,200mAh battery found in previous X21 models would arguably be used much more efficiently.
Aside from that, the previous models came with a 6.28-inch Super AMOLED screen, featuring a 2,280 x 1,080 resolution and a 19:9 tall aspect ratio. Everything is driven, in turn, by Android 8.1. None of that would be surprising either. However, it’s important to bear in mind that this is almost entirely speculation, aside from the specifications for RAM, SoC, and Android version. So all or none of that could be either true or inaccurate. Until Vivo announces something more official, there’s really no way to know for sure.
