According to a new rumor that has just surfaced in China, Xiaomi will not only introduce the Mi 8 instead of Mi 7 soon, but the Mi 8 will sport an iPhone X-like face scanning technology. This is a lot to take in following a number of Mi 7 rumors, and it’s recommended you take this rumor with a grain of salt, as it’s not exactly easy to believe that Xiaomi would skip the Mi 7 branding just like that.
In any case, according to the rumor, the Xiaomi Mi 8 will ship with “3D Structured Light” technology (rough translation), which is a fancy name for its facial scanning tech. The source claims that this technology is similar to what Apple included in the iPhone X, and it’s a lot more secure than your regular front-facing camera face-scanning tech. This tech will be included inside of a rather large notch that will be placed in the upper portion of the Mi 8’s display, claims the source, and the source also shared some spec info for the upcoming device. According to the provided info, the Xiaomi Mi 8 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, while it will include 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and UFS 2.1 flash storage. That is more or less all the info that was shared by the source, but thanks to a ton of Mi 7 rumors and leaks that surfaced in the last couple of weeks, we basically know what to expect when it comes to the spec sheet of the device, regardless whether Xiaomi opts to name the phone Mi 7 or Mi 8.
The Xiaomi Mi 7 / Mi 8 will be made out of metal and glass, while it will ship with support for wireless charging (Qi standard). The phone will probably sport a 5.45-inch display, at least if rumors are to be believed, while it will probably be available in both 6GB and 8GB RAM variants. Android Oreo will come pre-installed on the phone, while Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin will be included on top of it. The device will include two cameras on its back, and that’s probably where its fingerprint scanner will sit as well. It is worth noting that Xiaomi teased a new launch event earlier today, so who knows, we may see the Mi 7 / Mi 8 introduced soon, at least rumors are claiming that the Mi 7 will arrive before the end of May.
