Xiaomi Posts 116% YoY Growth, Says Canalys In Q1 Report

Following IDC and Strategy Analytics, Canalys has also released its Q1 2018 smartphone market report. Xiaomi is the star of Canalys’ report as well, as the company managed to post the highest growth in the last three years, Xiaomi grew by 116-percent compared to the same period last year. As far as shipments are concerned, the order of top five smartphone manufacturers is the same as in IDC’s and Strategy Analytics’ reports.

Samsung is still the number one smartphone manufacturer out there, and according to Canalys, Samsung’s market share grew a bit, from 22.9-percent to 23.6-percent. Apple is second in line, and it currently holds 15.5-percent of the smartphone market, a bit more than last year. Huawei is third-placed with 11.7-percent of the smartphone market, and growth of 13.8-percent in comparison to Q1 2017. Xiaomi managed to grow 116-percent in comparison to the same period last year, the company currently holds 8.4-percent of the global smartphone market, according to Canalys, while it had 3.7-percent of the market in Q1 2017. OPPO is fifth-placed with 7.6-percent of the market, 5.1-percent less than in Q1 2017. Other smartphone manufacturers managed to grab 33.2-percent of the global smartphone market in the first quarter of this year. Canalys also notes that the global smartphone market declined by 3.4-percent compared to the same period last year.

Interestingly enough, out of 28.1 million smartphones that the company shipped, 57-percent of them were shipped to markets outside of Xiaomi’s homeland, China. This only signalizes Xiaomi’s expansion to other markets, the company managed to become the number one smartphone manufacturer in India, and it is expanding to Europe as well. Xiaomi launched its products in Spain months ago, while it recently agreed to sell its products via Three UK, and in a number of other markets in Europe, including Italy. Xiaomi is planning to further expand its reach in Europe, though it remains to be seen if the company will arrive to the US or not, as ZTE and Huawei’s recent issues may scare off Xiaomi.
