Xiaomi has just announced the Redmi S2, a handset that has been leaking like crazy over the last couple of weeks. Now, it’s worth noting that most of the Redmi S2 leaks were accurate, as the phone’s design and specs surfaced quite a few times thus far. The Redmi S2 is a budget handset, it is made out of metal, and it sports a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. Xiaomi’s logo is included on the back of this phone, as are two cameras, and an LED flash. On the right-hand side of the device, you will find all of the phone’s physical keys, while a SIM card tray sits on the left.
The Redmi S2 actually resembles a number of other devices Xiaomi introduced this year, and its bezels are somewhat thin, while its display sports rounded corners. The phone sports a 5.99-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display with a 2.5D curved glass on top of it, while the phone comes with 3GB / 4GB of RAM and 32GB / 64GB of expandable storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 64-bit octa-core processor fuels the Redmi S2, while a 3,080mAh non-removable battery is also included in the package. 12-megapixel (1.25um pixel size, f/2.2 aperture, PDAF) and 5-megapixel cameras are included on the back of the phone, while a 16-megapixel camera sits on the device’s front side. Android 8.1 Oreo comes pre-installed on the device, while you will find Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin on top of it. Facial scanning is also a part of the package here, as the phone will utilize its front-facing camera in order to scan your face, if that’s a security method you prefer, though keep in mind that a fingerprint scanner is more secure, and also more reliable.
The Redmi S2 has two SIM card slots on the inside, and a separate microSD card slot. An infrared sensor sits on the top of the device, while the phone measures 160.73 x 77.26 x 8.1mm, and weighs 170 grams. The phone comes in Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, and Rose GOld color variants, while its 3GB and 4GB RAM variants are priced at 999 Yuan ($156) and 1,299 Yuan ($204) in China, respectively. It is still unknown when will the phone become available, but chances are it will go on sale soon.
