The clearest Google Pixel 3 XL concept render to date emerged online earlier this week, having been authored by Behance user “Phone Designer” featuring a wallpaper made by one Tobias van Schneider. The image that can be seen above is based on what are believed to be the first known sightings of Google’s upcoming Android flagship which leaked over the last 48 hours, debuting in the form of more than half a dozen real-life images of the phablet which is expected to be officially announced this fall.
While Google appears to be set on following a number of mobile industry trends with the Pixel 3 lineup, it will also be riding against several others, latest reports indicate. The most obvious example of the company’s 2018 smartphone strategy is the allegation that the Pixel 3 XL will feature a display notch but will simultaneously lack a dual-camera setup on its back. While one twin sensor system will apparently be housed by the screen cutout on top of the handset, the addition of a second front-facing lens has yet to be explained by any insider and its purpose remains unclear. While dual-camera selfie setups are becoming more common in the industry, they’re usually paired with two back lenses, wheres smartphones that feature the former but not the latter have so far largely been reserved for select Asian markets, usually coming in the form of Android mid-rangers from Chinese manufacturers, with one of the most recently released devices embracing that design being the Oppo F3 Plus.
The Pixel 3 XL is said to be featuring a 6.2-inch panel with a 19:9 aspect ratio, whereas the smaller Pixel 3 is expected to debut with a 5.3-inch 18:9 (2:1) screen and no notch, effectively looking like a more compact take on last year’s Pixel 2 XL. The previous two generations of the Pixel flagships both launched on October 4 of their respective years, with the new one possibly being set to follow suit this fall.
