Dragon Ball Legends is now available for download on Android devices globally, having been rolled out on a worldwide level earlier this week, some ten days after debuting in the United States. Unlike many previous titles based on the popular Japanese franchise, the latest offering from Bandai Namco is a combination of a strategy and an action experience, boasting relatively high production values and a broad range of characters. Chaining combos and launching special moves is hence as easy as tapping and swiping the screen, with the overall design philosophy behind the game being aimed at delivering an experience that’s as accessible as possible.
Online battles against other players are also part of the package, though the free-to-play nature of Dragon Ball Legends does mean that the game has a pay-to-win component. While a constant Internet connection is required to play the game, those who aren’t interested in taking on other players will still be able to experience a lengthy single-player campaign with an original storyline starring a new character designed by Akira Toriyama – the creator of the Dragon Ball franchise.
The mobile game features a visual style inspired by Dragon Ball animes but isn’t particularly resource-intensive and should be able to run at a stable frame rate on virtually any contemporary smartphone or tablet. Its software requirements are also relatively lax, with Dragon Ball Legends being compatible with Android 6.0 Marshmallow and later versions of Google’s omnipresent mobile operating system. According to the latest Android distribution figures provided by Alphabet’s subsidiary last month, over 62-percent of all active Android devices on the planet fit those requirements. All battles are relatively short, with Dragon Ball Legends hence being suitable for playing on the go.
