Google's Game Platform Rumored To Be Three-Pronged Approach

Google’s game platform is rumored to be a three-pronged approach according to a recent report that cites unnamed sources. The game platform in question, currently said to be codenamed Yeti which was rumored earlier this year, is being said to include hardware, a streaming platform, and the third and likely equally as important detail, getting game developers under the Google umbrella, which could mean having certain developers join the Google staff just as other companies have in the past. It’s suggested that getting game developers onboard with Google for this new initiative could include Google buying up an entire company or just simply recruiting the best talent and having them join the staff of what would likely be a new division.

The streaming platform for Google’s game hardware is likened to NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW, as it will have powerful computer hardware handling the graphics rendering portion of the gaming experience. No mentions were made in regards to how fast the streaming service would be and whether or not it would be able to forego issues that have been spotted with similar game streaming services, and there’s no mention just yet of what the actual hardware will look like and if it will come with any powerful hardware itself or if Google will simply be looking to put something out that is affordable.

That said, it is rumored that the hardware will connect to the streaming platform, so perhaps Google is looking to put something out that is similar to the NVIDIA SHIELD unit. How close it is to having a working prototype is unclear, as is how close it might to be actually releasing the hardware and launching the platform, if it gets that far in the first place. Google is suggested to be fairly serious about this platform, though, so that’s worth keeping in mind.
