Huawei Watch 2 (2018) Announced In China With eSIM, NFC

Huawei has just announced the Huawei Watch 2 (2018) smartwatch in China. This watch is basically a successor of the original Huawei Watch 2 which was announced last year, and it comes with the same design, and even the same specs, for the most part. Now, the difference between last year’s Huawei Watch 2 and this one is the fact that this watch comes with support for eSIM, compared to a nano SIM slot that the original Huawei Watch 2 offered in its 4G variant. Your watch and smartphone will share the same number this way, though you will be able to use the watch without the need to use your phone, of course, as you’ll be able to make calls using your watch, and basically do whatever else you want with it.

The Huawei Watch 2 (2018) comes with a dual microphone setup which is supposed to improve call quality, while the watch sports a ceramic bezel. This watch’s crown design has a shortcut key which lets you enter sport mode and quickly select the type of exercise you want, though that button is customizable, so you can set it to perform a different action if you’d like. This watch can track eight types of exercises, while an always-on heart rate sensor is also a part of the package. GPS comes built-in here, and the FIRSTBEAT motion algorithm will provide some exercise guidance for you, if that’s something you need. This watch also supports Huawei Pay payment method, in case you were wondering.

The Huawei Watch 2 (2018) features a 1.2-inch 390 x 390 circular AMOLED display, with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top of it. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor fuels the Huawei Watch 2 (2018), while the watch comes with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of native storage. Android Wear 2.0 comes pre-installed on the watch, while you’ll be getting the following sensors as well: 3-axis A + G sensor, 3-axis Gyroscope, 3-axis Compass, Ambient Light Sensor, Barometer, and the aforementioned heart rate sensor. Speaker is built into this watch as well, while the device is IP68 certified for water and dust resistance. A 420mAh battery is included in the package, and it supports fast charging. The watch measures 45 x 48 x 12.6mm, while it comes with an NFC chip as well. The Huawei Watch 2 (2018) comes in a Black color only, and its eSIM variant is priced at 1,988 Yuan ($310) in China, while the nano SIM model costs 1,888 Yuan ($294). The standard Bluetooth variant of the watch is priced at 1,688 Yuan ($263) in China, in case you were wondering, and the Huawei Watch 2 (2018) can be purchased via Vmall in China, Huawei’s official online store.
