Samsung on Thursday published a new white paper outlining the latest 5G New Radio standards, having done so following the conclusion of a San Diego, California-based assembly organized by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP). The gathering in question saw the announcement of detailed specifications meant to allow for commercial applications of the fifth generation of mobile networks. Titled “Who & How: Making 5G NR Standards,” the paper provides a summary of 3GPP’s recent efforts to innovate in the wireless space, clearly defining every technological characteristic of what 5G is meant to entail.
Among other things, Samsung’s creation tackles physical infrastructure, software, and frequencies the global consortium agreed to utilize as the backbone of its 5G deployment efforts. As was the case with previous generations of wireless technologies, 5G will be a standardized solution, allowing individuals from any part of the world to communicate with mobile networks anywhere else on the planet. Five interviews with telecommunications experts are also part of the newly published paper, being presented in a traditional Q&A format. While Samsung has been manufacturing telecom equipment for many years now, 5G research and development marks the first occasion on which the OEM took upon itself to lead wireless innovation efforts, with such ambitions being rewarded with new contracts in the United States and other parts of the world.
