Cord-cutting streaming service Sling TV now has over 100 hours of new content in its Hollywood Extras add-on thanks to the addition of The Film Detective. That’s according to a new announcement from Sling TV, made via its official blog on May 31. For those who may not be aware, The Film Detective is a classic movie distribution filled with everything from feature films to cult classics, primarily from the 1950s and 1960s. Genres range across the gamut from comedies to horror titles, including documentaries, martial arts flicks, and pretty much every other genre imaginable. It should be a worthwhile addition to round out the other content from the bundle – which includes SundanceTV, Fandor Festival, HDNet Movies, REELZ, Turner Classic Movies (TCM).
Happily enough, for those that love classic movies and shows, the addition of The Film Detective doesn’t actually change the price of Hollywood Extras, either. Sling TV is still offering the package as an extension of its Sling Orange and Sling Blue packages for just $5 per month. So those who are already subscribed to the bundle will get the new content at no extra cost and those looking to get signed up for the first time won’t need to pay any more than the previous cost. That should equate to great experiences for movie lovers using the on-demand streaming service and plenty of new discovery for those who haven’t delved too deeply into movies from the era.
For those who may not be familiar with the Sling TV platform, it’s a streaming Live TV service which allows for add-on packages filled to the brim with live streaming and on-demand content. Customers can watch on a wealth of platforms and dedicated apps, including select smart TVs, Android, Android TV, Chromecast, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, iOS, Apple TV, and browsers such as Chrome. Add-on content requires access to either a Sling Orange or Sling Blue Live TV bundle which cost $20 and $25 per month, respectively. The average cost of additional bundles is around $5 per month, although some of the more extensive sports packages go for upwards of $25. The platform has been improving with relative consistency, with the most recent benefits including 60fps streaming for some channels and the availability of Cloud DVR for recording.
