Xiaomi’s Senior Vice President, Wang Xiang, has shared four Xiaomi Mi 8 camera samples via his official Twitter account. The Xiaomi Mi 8 was announced quite recently with its Mi 8 Explorer Edition and Mi 8 SE siblings, and the device actually received a rather high rating by DxOMark. The phone was given a 99 overall score by DxOMark, while it received a 105 score when it comes to photo quality alone. That’s one of the highest ratings DxOMark gave to a smartphone, so let’s check out the provided camera samples, shall we.
Now, these images have been resized and compressed at the same time, so keep that in mind, but they’re still quite sharp and give us a good idea as to what to expect from the phone’s dual camera setup. All the images have been taken with the Mi 8’s rear-facing cameras, and none of them have been edited by a photo editing tool, in any way. By the looks of it, we’d say that these images were taken in the Scandinavia, or something of the sort. The first three images have been taken in daylight, while the last one was captured later in the day, though the sun didn’t fully set in it. All these images are quite clear, and the colors are punchy as well, they seem to be slightly more saturated than you’d expect, but that may actually be a good thing, as the images may seem a bit better because of it, at least if you prefer it to be that way. Details are spot on, and the water looks quite great in these images as well. The last image was the most difficult to capture, that’s for sure, as most cameras out there struggled in low light, and usually lose quite a bit of detail while shooting in low light. Well, this image that the Mi 8 was able to capture looks really good, it managed to retain quite a bit of light, and the detail on the boats in the image is really good, you can see plenty of detail in the image in general, and the colors are quite nice as well.
The Xiaomi Mi 8 actually comes with two 12-megapixel cameras on its back, the phone’s main camera packs in a 26mm wide-angle lens, and Sony’s IMX363 sensor. We’re looking at an f/1.8 aperture lens here, and the camera also offers 4-axis OIS, and its pixels are 1.4um in size. The secondary camera packs in Samsung’s S5K3M3 sensor, f/2.4 aperture, 1.0um pixel size, and this is a telephoto lens, so chances are that only the phone’s primary camera was used to capture the provided images. The Mi 8 is fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core SoC, it is made out of metal and glass, and it comes with an infrared facial scanning tech. The phone comes with 6GB of RAM and a 6.21-inch fullHD+ display. The Mi 8 Explorer Edition comes with the same camera setup as the Mi 8, but it offers more RAM, storage, and it comes with a see-through glass back, not to mention that it also includes 3D facial scanning.
