According to a new report, OnePlus plans to fix the ‘oil painting’ effect on the OnePlus 6 in the near future. This information comes from the company’s support team, as you can see in the provided image down below. OnePlus’ support team says that the next update will optimize that very specific camera issue, though do keep in mind that the info is coming from OnePlus’ China team, not its global unit.
Having said that, this update will probably hit HydrogenOS (OnePlus’ software for the Chinese market) first, and then it will land on the OnePlus 6 via OxygenOS for global units. This update will almost certainly go through the Open Beta program that the company has running first, so those of you who are using beta software will get a taste of it first. Now, the ‘oil painting’ issue has been plaguing the company’s smartphones for a while now (via several devices), and a permanent fix has not been rolled out by the company. Now, it seems like the HDR mode is the culprit here, which was to be expected, as it seems like something goes wrong in image processing. This issues should be fixable via a software update, as it does not seem to be hardware related at all, same as on the company’s previous devices, some of which had that very same issue.
The OnePlus 6 had been introduced back in May, and the company had released quite a few updates for the device thus far, not only optimizing the device but adding new features to it. The ‘oil painting’ effect may not be an issue for all OnePlus users, as there are some reports out there, but not as much as we’ve seen before, and we did not have such issues during the review (it’s possible that the issue appeared with one of the updates that arrived post-review). In any case, if you’re having such issues with your camera, a future update should take care of it, while you will also be able to choose new accent colors as well, which is a feature that OnePlus is currently testing. In case you’re wondering, OxygenOS 5.1.8 is the latest stable update for the OnePlus 6, and if you’d like to know more about the device, feel free to check out our full review of the device.
