Gameloft’s Asphalt racing series is famous as one of the best arcade racing game series in the Play Store, and the ninth entry’s Play Store listing, now up for viewing and pre-registration with a few screenshots, seems to indicate that it will be no different. The newest game in the series features tons of hot cars, beautiful environments, and graphics that easily rival the best that last-gen consoles like the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 had to offer. The evidently very pretty racing game has a long lineage to live up to and a lot to prove. Though pre-registration is now live, there is no date for exactly when the game will be available for download.
The series shifted from a Need For Speed clone of sorts to a more arcade-ish feel from the fifth entry onward, and the completely ridiculous eigth game, aptly titled Airborne, is clearly where Legends gets its inspiration. Massive effects and camera tweaks punctuate nearly every noteworthy action that happens, with HDR and particle effects in full swing to push even the hardiest Android to its limits. This game boasts a massive roster of over 50 real supercars from names like Lamborghini and Ferrari, all of which can be customized to your liking on the outside and tuned to perfection on the inside. This entry in the series also features a new Nitro Pulse that breaks the sound barrier with compatible vehicles, and the ability to do a quick spinout by double-tapping the brake, useful for smashing nearby opponents into walls and out of your way. The career mode, meanwhile, lasts for over 800 events across more than 60 seasons. Multiplayer happens synchronously, with up to 8 players causing havoc on the track at once. There’s also a new control scheme, called TouchDrive, that makes life a little easier for newbies and frees up pros to take in the scenery. Rounding out the massive list of new features, you’ll be able to create your very own Club and work the leaderboards as a team.
Fans of previous Asphalt entries likely won’t be disappointed by this one, which seems determined to crank the series’ trademark craziness up to 11. The Asphalt pedigree goes all the way back to the early aughts, and the formula has been continually fine-turned since, giving Asphalt a unique place in the racing genre. This entry brings a heavier focus on the online features while carrying over everything that made previous ones great.
