The Huawei Mate 20 naming for the company’s upcoming flagship has just been confirmed by a new trademark filing. Huawei has filed a number of trademarks all over the European Union, which confirm that the Mate 20 naming is a go, which was to be expected as the company jumped from the Huawei P10 to the Huawei P20 series earlier this year. Huawei had introduced several Mate 10 devices last year, and will skip the Mate 11 naming, in order to jump straight to the Mate 20 series.
Interestingly enough, Huawei did not trademark only the Mate 20 name, the company also filed for Mate 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 and 90 trademarks, which suggests that the company’s Mate flagship for 2019 will be called the Mate 30, and so on. This also suggests that the next P flagship from the company will be named the Huawei P30, instead of P21, in case some of you were wondering. The Huawei Mate 20 is expected to arrive in October, and it will be fueled by the company’s next-gen flagship Kirin processor, which the company has not announced just yet. That processor will probably be called the Kirin 980, which was spotted in an AnTuTu test a while back, and the company will almost certainly announce it in the coming weeks. As far as the phone’s design and specs are concerned, we can only guess at this point, as we did not see a solid Mate 20 leak thus far, while only a couple of spec-related rumors surfaced.
It is possible that the Mate 20 will resemble the Huawei P20 series, though, which means that it may sport with a display notch, and really thin bezels. The Huawei Mate 20 will probably be larger than both P20 devices, mainly due to a larger display that is expected to be included. The phone will pack in at least 6GB of RAM on the inside, while you can expect to see Android 8.1 Oreo come pre-installed on the device, along with Huawei’s Emotion UI (EMUI) 8.1 skin. The Kirin 980 SoC managed to score 356,918 in a leaked AnTuTu test, which is mind-boggling, though it remains to be seen how legit that test was.
