Mobile virtual network operator Mint Mobile is celebrating its second birthday with a free trial program that’s now available throughout the United States, the company announced Tuesday. The move is meant to help the firm grow its customer base, offering anyone interested in trying out one of its prepaid plans an opportunity to do so free of charge for a week. The offer applies to Mint Mobile’s Starter Kits which are already highly accessible, featuring a $5 price tag. While you’ll still have to pay for that entry point, the newly announced promotion allows you to get a refund after a week, no questions asked.
Mint Mobile managed to triple its customer base over the last twelve months, though the company still isn’t sharing any specific figures. Its anniversary promotion is meant to provide American consumers with a glimpse of what the firm claims is the ultimate mobile service that’s entirely Internet-based and contract-free. The starter kit that anyone based in the U.S. can now try out for free includes 100 minutes of talk time, 100 text messages, and 100MB of 4G LTE data. The MVNO uses T-Mobile‘s network so any area that’s covered by the Bellevue, Washington-based company should also be adequately serviced by Mint.
As the firm has an online-only approach to sales, its operating costs are relatively low, with most savings being passed on to consumers. Mint Mobile’s plans start at $15 per month and include unlimited talk and text, with the base tier also providing you with 2GB of 4G LTE data. An extra $5 will grant you 5GB of data, while another $5 provides you with 10GB in total. Previously known as Mint SIM, the Costa Mesa, California-based MVNO rebranded itself as Mint Mobile this May, though its overall mission remains unchanged, with the company still seeking to provide American consumers with a full-fledged wireless service on a budget. The name change was meant to better communicate the fact that that firm offers much more than a simple SIM card, the MVNO said this spring.
