T-Mobile LG G7 ThinQ Getting July 2018 Security Patch

T-Mobile recently started rolling out the July 2018 Android security patch to the LG G7 ThinQ. This security update resolves several vulnerabilities found in the media framework and the system portion of the Android operating system. The search giant noted in the release notes of the security patch that the most severe vulnerability that this security patch fix is a critical software flaw located in the media framework of the operating system. This security issue is categorized as a remote code execution vulnerability and it enables attackers to access and take control of the device even from a separate location. In addition, another remote code execution vulnerability in the system portion of the OS was also fixed by the software upgrade.

Aside from installing the latest security patch, the software upgrade also introduces a number of system improvements and bug fixes to the LG G7 ThinQ. Right now, the software package is available as an over-the-air download, although users may also install the software package using the LG Bridge software. To find out if the update is already available for their device, users should proceed to the Update Center section of the device settings. However, it should be noted that like in the previous deployments of software packages, T-Mobile may set a daily limit on the number of users that could download the update. This restriction was imposed to prevent network congestion. Furthermore, T-Mobile is advising users to only install the software package when there is sufficient battery to last the entire update process to prevent bricking the device.

LG announced the G7 ThinQ back in May 2018, and it is powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, which is comprised of an octa-core Kryo 385 CPU and the Adreno 630 GPU. The device includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash storage, which could be expanded using a microSD card. A 6.1-inch display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 is found in the front of the smartphone, while the rear panel contains a dual rear camera setup, which is equipped with two 16-megapixel sensors. To keep its lights on, the handset contains a 3,000mAh battery, and it also supports Quick Charge 3.0.
