Dell has taken to IFA 2018 to unveil the Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1, which breaks with recent tradition and ignores the budget segment to aim directly at the competition at the upper end of the market. Priced at $599 to start and set to release on October 23, as its name implies, the new Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 centers its design around previous top-tier Inspiron laptops, Chrome OS, and a 360-degree hinge. It also ships with a 14-inch Full HD display panel at a 1080p resolution that’s both touch-enabled with a ‘wide’ viewing angle. That screen won’t be the only part of the all-aluminum build that puts out light either. A backlit keyboard is also standard to ensure that it’s easy to type things up regardless of how dark the surrounding environment might be. What’s more an EMR stylus pen also comes standard, embedded in the underside of the keyboard and at the edge where it can easily be accessed.
Dell hasn’t cut many corners on the inside either. The new Chromebook sports an eighth-generation Intel Core i3 CPU backed up by a planned 4GB of DDR4 RAM and as much as 128GB of eMMC storage. That leaves plenty of spare room for any files, media, or Android apps buyers will want to install. The silicon itself is clocked at up to 3.4GHz with 4MB cache. Its 56Wh battery is expected last just about anybody at least 10-hours and up to 15-hours. Charging, unlike other recent Inspiron Chromebook entries, can be accomplished via either one of two included USB 3.1 Type-C ports. Aside from those, Dell has added a combination headphone and mic port, micro SD card reader, standard USB 3.1 port on the input and output side of things as well. For other connections, Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth are included.
Matching its business-centric premium components and functionality, the company plans to sell its Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 in a single traditional color called ‘Urban Gray.’ In the meantime, the company has omitted some details such as were the new Chrome OS device will be available. However, sales won’t start for just short of another two months. That leaves plenty of time for Dell to reveal any other pertinent information about its latest Inspiron Chromebook.
