The Essential PH-1 is a little over a year old now, and many are looking forward to the second-generation of the Essential Phone. But so far, Essential has not announced a second-generation smartphone. However, it has just officially sold out of the Stellar Gray color, and by the looks of it, Essential may not be restocking the phone. Could this mean that an Essential PH-2 is on the way soon? It could, as smartphone makers do usually clear out stock before it announces a new phone. And the Essential PH-1 has been discounted quite a bit recently, including a $279 sale that took place over the weekend.
Essential is a startup smartphone maker, which was created by Andy Rubin. Typically, a startup smartphone company wouldn’t make a whole lot of headlines, but Essential did in the past year, and that’s because of who founded the company. Andy Rubin is the founder of Android. That is also why the Essential PH-1 is running a stock version of Android and has very little bloatware as well. Which made a lot of people really like this smartphone. Not to mention the fact that it did have high-end specs. Including a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It was also the first phone with a notch, and it still has the smallest notch of any smartphone. The notch on the Essential PH-1 is only there for the front-facing camera.
Back in May, it was reported that the Essential Phone 2 had been canceled. Now while that was never confirmed by the company – and that was also back in May, it’s not August, so things may have changed – there also have been no leaks on an upcoming smartphone from Essential. Which is unfortunate, as Essential did do a lot of things right with the first phone and the second one should be even better – and should start at a lower price as well.
