Epic Games’ hit game Fortnite has been updated to version 5.21, and players can expect a couple of new time-limited modes for Battle Royale, along with a new weapon, the Heavy Sniper Rifle. It supplants the Scoped Assault Rifle, which has been removed from certain modes. One of the new modes is centered around the weapon itself; called Sniper Shootout, only sniper rifles will spawn on the map, leaving players to skirmish at long range and rely on stealth tactics to pull out a win. The other new mode is called Soaring 50’s and it’s essentially a standard 50-vs-50 battle with more focus on airborne play.
Sniper Shootout is exactly what it sounds like; you drop in, grab a sniper rifle, and get to work finding other players to take out. Kills and deaths aren’t tracked in this mode, and floor loot is 50-percent rarer. In Soaring 50’s, Players can use their gliders when falling from great heights, and there are launch pads and bounce pads everywhere. Impulse grenades also spawn in chests more often and are added to floor loot. Spike traps also appear less often. The Heavy Sniper Rifle boasts extreme damage but takes a while to reload. It also has less bullet drop, making each deadly shot more accurate. It comes in Epic and Legendary variants, and can be found in floor loot, chests, vending machines and supply drops, much like the rest of in-game weaponry. The minigun has had its headshot damage reduced a bit, and the “Deal damage to players with a Clinger, Stink Bomb, or Grenade” challenge now properly tracks grenade kills. Cloth physics have also been tweaked, and should look better now. As a caveat, if you’ve installed the game and deleted the installer, you’ll need to redownload it in order to load this patch.
There are some changes to Save The World mode, including a new character, but mobile gamers can safely ignore those for now; Save The World isn’t available on mobile platforms at the moment and is a separate game from Fortnite Battle Royale. The latter title is still in beta on Android, and the number of supported devices remains limited. Owners of most modern Samsung flagships should be able to play, and more devices are steadily being added. As a reminder, the absolute minimum requirements for the game are a 64-bit processor and 3GB of RAM. If you don’t want to wait to play Fortnite on your phone, it’s advisable to use Steam Link instead of trying to use workarounds and hacks, since you could end up being banned from the game across multiple accounts and devices.
