The Dutch tech website, NieuweMobiel, has leaked a sketch of the HTC U12 Life, which provided details about the design of the upcoming mid-range smartphone. This device is expected to succeed the U11 Life, and the sketch shows that the handset will sport a display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, with thin bezels located above and below the display. Users will find the front-facing camera, the earpiece, and the sensors above the screen, while the tech firm moved the fingerprint sensor from below the handset’s display in the U11 Life to the device’s rear panel in the U12 Life. Moreover, the smartphone will feature a dual rear camera setup placed at the upper left-hand corner of the handset’s back plate. In contrast, the U11 Life only sported a single rear camera. Users will also find the LED flash in between the two rear cameras. This sketch also suggests that HTC may use different materials for the upper and lower parts of the handset’s rear panel due to the similarities between the back plate layout of the U12 Life and the original Google Pixel, a device that HTC also manufactured.
Previous leaks have already detailed the specifications of the HTC U12 Life. The Snapdragon 636 chipset from Qualcomm will reportedly power the mid-range handset. This SoC is comprised of an octa-core Kryo 260 CPU and the Adreno 509 GPU. The handset is expected to sport 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash storage that could be expanded using a microSD card. Rumors indicate that the U12 Life will feature a 6.0-inch display with a resolution of 2160 by 1080 pixels, and it will reportedly contain a 3,600mAh battery, which is significantly larger than the 2,600mAh battery included with the device’s predecessor. The smartphone’s dual rear camera setup is rumored to be equipped with one 16-megapixel sensor and one 5-megapixel module, while the single front-facing camera will come with a 13-megapixel sensor.
There is no official information available regarding the launch date and pricing of the HTC U12 Life. However, given that the U11 Life was unveiled in November last year, it is likely that the upcoming handset will be announced in the fourth quarter of 2018.
