Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro Codenames & Camera Details Leak

Quite a few Huawei Mate 20 details surfaced yesterday thanks to a report from XDA Developers, and some additional info appeared now in China. This new report reveals the Mate 20 and 20 Pro codenames, camera setups, and some additional info. If the info is to be believed, the Huawei Mate 20 is called ‘Hima’ inside the company, while the Mate 20 Pro has a ‘Laya’ codename. Both the Huawei Mate 20 and 20 Pro are said to sport three cameras on the back.

Now, the source says that the Mate 20 will ship with 8, 12, and 20-megapixel cameras on its back, while the Mate 20 Pro will sport a more advanced 8, 20, and 40-megapixel setup, which actually sounds similar to the one on the Huawei P20 Pro. Leica’s lenses will once again be a part of the package, while Sony’s IMX300 and IMX600 sensors have been mentioned in this report as well, for both the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro. The third sensor on the Mate 20 will be a new CMOS telephoto lens, report claims. Huawei’s upcoming Kirin 980 SoC, which is said to arrive later this month, will fuel the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro handsets, and that will be the company’s 7nm 64-bit octa-core processor. 40W fast charging is also said to be a part of the package in both the Mate 20’s and Mate 20 Pro’s cases.

The report also suggests that both the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro may ship with display notches, while the Mate 20 Pro will probably also feature an in-display fingerprint scanner. The Mate 20 Pro will ship with an AMOLED panel, and it’s still unclear whether such a panel will be included in the Mate 20 as well, or not. That’s more or less it as far as this report goes, but yesterday we were able to find out that the Mate 20 will probably ship with a 6.3-inch display, while the Mate 20 Pro will include a larger, 6.9-inch panel. Both smartphones will ship with batteries larger than 4,000mAh, if rumors are to be believed, while Android 9.0 with Emotion UI (EMUI) 9.0 had also been mentioned thus far. The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro will arrive in Q4 this year.
