According to a report out of Android Police, Samsung is supposedly working on a successor to the Galaxy View, and it’ll have a 17-inch display that is destined for AT&T. As expected, it’s being referred to as the Galaxy View 2, and it appears that AT&T is picking up the exclusive on this tablet, at least that is according to those “familiar with the matter”. The original Galaxy View was a 18.4-inch tablet, that was sold at $600 and well, it didn’t sell all that well. But that’s not keeping Samsung from creating a successor.
The Galaxy View 2 is supposedly a more compact tablet, with thinner bezels and a slightly smaller display at 17-inches – diagonally. The Galaxy View 2 will not have a handle this time around, but instead use a book-style hinge as the stand. You can use it in an open or closed position. The closed position will allow users to use the Galaxy View 2 kinda like a drafting desk. While the open position will make it a bit more like a laptop. Which is good for watching video on this tablet.
Currently, there’s not a whole lot of information on the spec sheet. But it is supposedly going to feature a 1080p display, with an Exynos processor and 3GB of RAM. There’s no mention about how much storage is inside, but the original Galaxy View came with 32GB or 64GB of storage, so it’ll likely be along those lines. The Galaxy View 2 also does not support DeX mode, which might be a bit surprising, as many might expect to be able to plug their smartphone into the tablet and use it as an external monitor. But at this point, that isn’t the case.
So far, there’s no word on pricing, but the original Galaxy View was priced around $600 and it also launched in October of 2015, so that could be when it is announced this year. Though it’s tough to say at this point, as it does sound like the Galaxy View 2 is still a bit early in the development stage.
