Snapchat is one of the most popular multimedia messaging apps out there, and the company has been working on a new Android app for a while now… well, that app has now leaked. Snapchat Alpha is the name of this new application (though it’s possible that Snap will remove the ‘Alpha’ part once the final version drops), and it looks cleaner than the currently-available Snapchat application, not to mention that it works faster than the regular Snapchat app as well.
Users did not complain that much about the design of the Snapchat app, the main reason for so many complaints was the performance, as an Android Snapchat app cannot compare to the iOS version when it comes to performance. Back in November last year, Snap announced that a new app for Android is on its way, that the company is working on it, and it seems like that app is rather close to arrival, at least based on the looks and performance of the version it leaked. XDA Developers managed to get ahold of the app, and you can install and test it as well, but only if your phone is rooted, unfortunately. Now, as far as the design is concerned, the Settings menu is far simpler in Snapchat Alpha, while the Stories menu looks more similar to the Instagram Stories menu, for better or worse. The bottom navigation bar is no longer transparent, as is the case with the currently-available Snapchat app, while the ‘friends’ menu seems identical to the old one.
If you head over to the messages UI, you will notice that the bottom bar has been redesigned, and that the calling and video calling buttons are gone, but they may be added in the full version of the app. There are several other changes in this menu, which you will be able to see if you check out the video that is embedded down below.
