Montblanc Summit 2 Will Release In October With Snapdragon Wear 3100

Qualcomm announced the latest wearable chipset today, the Snapdragon Wear 3100. It also announced three brands that would be the first to use this new chipset, which included Montblanc. Now we know what smartwatch Montblanc will be debuting, and when. The Montblanc Summit 2 will be coming in October with the Snapdragon Wear 3100 included. No other information was given however, including features, price, or other specs. So for now, many are left to imagine what the Summit 2 might bring.

With the Summit 2 sporting the new chipset from Qualcomm, customers should expect it to sport better battery life and possibly even be a bit thinner. Though Montblanc and other traditional watchmakers do make pretty thin smartwatches, it could get even thinner and have better battery life. Many are also expecting it to have GPS and NFC included. GPS may not be a given, but NFC would be. Especially since Google is pushing its mobile payments system – Google Pay – pretty heavily right now. Of course, the Summit 2 is going to be running on Wear OS, which is Google’s rebranded wearable operating system, formerly Android Wear.

While the Summit 2 was shown off during Qualcomm’s presentation today, it was not fully functional. It had a watch face on the screen and that was about it. So there’s not a whole lot of information available about the Summit 2 just yet. However, with it launching next month, we should start to see plenty more information available about this upcoming watch. Fossil and Louis Vuitton were other names dropped today in Qualcomm’s event, as partners that would also be first to use the new chipset, and they should be announcing their offerings soon, as they are expected to be available before the end of the year. In the coming months, it wouldn’t be all that surprising to see a number of wearables launching especially with this new chipset finally available. So if you were waiting to buy a new smartwatch, the wait is almost over.
