Google is expected to unveil two next-generation Pixelbook-series Chromebooks at its October 9 hardware event but some newly spotted and prematurely aired ads may have already given away the design of one of those. The first of the new ads is attributed to an anonymous reader by the source and is actually a more general Chromebook advertisement. Reportedly, a click on the ad redirected users to the Chromebook web store at the current Pixelbook landing page, meaning the unit wasn’t necessarily an advertisement for the Pixelbook itself but for Chromebooks. However, the redirect and the image used in the ad both point to a Pixelbook-centric focus. With that said, the advertisement is obviously not showing a current Pixelbook. Despite similarities in coloration, a 360-degree hinge, and overall design – as well as the inclusion of a Google Pixelbook Pen stylus – the look is more refined and the screen bezels are drastically cut back in the new ad.
Beyond that, each of the ads shows what appears to be a reduction in overall thickness, although that could be down to the angle of the photos themselves. The second and third advertisements were posted to the Disqus comment section via Facebook user Bob Hopkins and each show at least one distinct change between generations. Those are both for Google assistant. One shows a Google Home Mini and a handset that’s presumably a Pixel-branded smartphone alongside a Chromebook that looks strikingly similar to the one spotted in the first ad. That same apparent Pixelbook shows up again, all by itself this time, in another ad for Google Assistant. All of that seems to suggest that Google is already either deliberately or accidentally showing off its new Pixelbook Chrome OS device early.
Bearing that in mind, there are actually predicted to be two new Pixelbooks at this year’s hardware event, aside from the usual internal component variations. The reported advertisements show a convertible laptop-style Chromebook. Although this may be one of the new Chromebooks, no clear images have cropped up yet regarding the device that’s been codenamed Nocturne. That’s predicted to be a Chrome OS tablet with a detachable keyboard, among other things. The ads don’t really reveal much more than aesthetics, however, so it remains to be seen how accurate they are and what the internal specifications will be in the final release.
